HUD Announces Final Report of the 2006 International Building Code
HUD has issued the Final Report of the HUD Review of the Fair Housing Accessibility Requirements in the 2006 International Building Code(IBC), published by the International Code Council (ICC).
The ICC requested that HUD review the accessibility provisions of the 2003 IBC to determine if the provisions are consistent with the accessibility requirements of the Fair Housing Act (the Act), the regulations implementing the Act, and the Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines so that the 2006 IBC could be recognized by HUD as a safe harbor for compliance with the law.
HUD has issued a press release regarding the safe harbor status for the 2003 IBC, conditioned on ICC disseminating a statement specifying ICC interpretation that an accessible route is required from site arrival points:
ADA Standards for Accessible Design
The ADA Standards for accessible design are the accessibility standards adopted by the Department of Justice for compliance with Title III of the ADA.
Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS)
The Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards, or UFAS, are the accessibility standards that have been adopted by various federal agencies, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and are applicable to housing funded by HUD.
